March: Tomatoes

Posted By: Adam 3 Comments

So when I started to write up my April food-phobia-conquering post, I realized that I hadn't written one for March. Immediately I paniced. Was this just another best-laid plan gone awry? Another project started and messed up?

No, indeed not! I ate tomatoes in March, I just forgot to write about them!

Not only did I eat them, I ate them in front of company, so gagging, vomiting, spitting them out, and cursing were off the table. If I didn't like them, I was just going to have to swallow and try to pretend like nothing was wrong.

Preparation: Freshly diced (though not finely) and spread over the top of a cheeseburger mac-n-cheese casserole, just before serving. (We also later made cheeseburgers with the remaining meat — which were awesome — and I considered adding a nice thick tomatoe slice to mine, but ultimately chickened out.)

Thoughts: Eh. No. I will probably try them again at some point but I didn't think, "Man! I've really been missing out!" I'm sure they're not in season, but I don't think they'll be that much better when they are. I'll probably end up sticking with pulverized Heinz tomatoe paste.

  1. When I was a kid I didn't eat nearly as much as I do now. Trying things with an open mind is something kids just don't do. And you'll say the same thing to Dylan some day.

    Mark my words....

  2. Its awesome that you are continuing to try everything! I think you should wait and try some fresh from the vine. I hear with tomatoes that makes a huge difference.

  3. I also hear that with babies anyway, sometimes they have to try something up to 10 times before they will learn to like it... so don't give up on things too soon!!
