I could spit nails…
Originally I was going to write this post as my Facebook status, but it's too long; so I'll have to unload on you instead. Sorry. (I'm just a little bit mad right now…)
Today I got a phone call from my Rheumatologist's office letting me know that my ongoing referral has expired and I need to get a new one before my next appointment. Oh, and my next appointment is tomorrow (Wednesday) at 5:30 am. Hey, no problem! My doctor's office is pretty on top of things and does referrals electronically. As long as they put it in immediately, I'll be fine.
So I immediately called my doctor's office and left a message on the referral voicemail. Oh, they require 48 hours notice. Crap.
Ok, so I'll just call back in a few minutes (after things settle down at work and I have a minute), speak with a receptionist, and ask them to rush it for me, this one time, pretty please.
Except work never calmed down, and I didn't realize that I had forgotten until after 6pm. Both my doctor's office and my Rheum's office are closed. And since my appointment is at 5:30 in the morning, there's not a snowballs chance in hell of my doctor's office getting the referral in on time — they don't open until 9 am.
[This space reserved for all of the profanity that I'm thinking about screaming, but can't even do that because I have an infant in the house.]
I mean, it's not like I work my entire schedule around this appointment. It's not like I drive 30 minutes out of my way to get to the Rheum's office. It's not like it's a terrible inconvenience for me to try and reschedule. It's not like I'm in pain while I wait for my new appointment. It's not like they won't be able to fit me in for another 2 weeks. It's not like THEY COULD HAVE PREVENTED THIS WHOLE THING IN THE FIRST PLACE BECAUSE THE APPOINTMENT WAS SCHEDULED 6 WEEKS AGO AND THEY KNEW AT THAT POINT WHAT THE REFERRAL EXPIRATION DATE WAS.
Ahem.
So you know what? Screw 'em. Yes, technically it's my responsibility to know when my referral will expire and get a new one — but they all-but-promised to do that for me, and FAILED MISERABLY. So I'm making absolutely no attempt to let them know that I won't be in for my appointment tomorrow, and I'll call at my own convenience to reschedule. What goes around comes around. Bite me.
Time to start shopping for a new rheumatologist.
