Birthin' (6/365)

Today we had child birthing classes. Yes, I watched the videos. Yes, that's crazy.

Class was all day, so that's pretty much all we did. We got home just in time to watch the last half of the Phillies game — they clinched the NL East; and right now we're watching Penn State kill Illinois. Booyah. Good day, all around!

Finally Friday (5/365)

Still no iPhone. So at least I've proven I can hold out for 24 hours.

(5/365) Finally Friday

It hasn't been a particularly long week, but I'm still glad it's Friday. Time to relax, maybe watch some football. Paint the baby's room. That sort of stuff.

I noticed that all of my pictures up to now have been taken with my right hand. It would make sense, I'm right handed. In a family of 5, I'm one of 3 righties — my Dad and middle brother are lefties. So this is sort of a (small) tribute to them. A Sinestra.

With 61 days until the due date, this whole baby thing is starting to get awfully real. We have a to-do list; things like finding a Pediatrician (started), paint Nublet's room (trim done!), and finish some or all of the books we've started.

It also means vacation is right around the corner. We're hoping that she's a day or two late, because for both of us, our last day at work this year will be the due date. That would mean we could both plan a day or two of relaxing and finalizing baby prep. In actuality, it would probably mean a day or two of running last minute errands until the middle of the night and losing sleep over whether we've got the house properly baby-proofed.

At the same time, I'm getting impatient. I've long been an instant gratification type of guy, so waiting 40 weeks for something has been challenging. I guess this is lesson number one in parenting: Patience.

I Can Resist Anything but Temptation (4/365)

This shot is obviously all about the phone. Right now, I'm all about the phone.

(4/365) I Can Resist Anything but Temptation

Right now, my phone is a BlackBerry Pearl. I got it, hmmm, maybe 3 months ago. Paid a lot of hard earned money for it too, since the Verizon "new every two" plan has become the "well, maybe if you're the primary account holder and you remember to ask" plan. It was kind of an impulse buy, to satisfy my iPhone hunger.

…And it's not really doing it's job.

At least, it's not satisfying the hunger. I would guess that it was probably about my senior year of high school (2000) that I started wishing for someone to combine a PDA, Phone, and iPod. At the time, I was just getting my first tech jobs; and I was carrying around my phone, a palm pilot, and one of a half dozen or so music players I tried over the years (eventually settling on the iPod). So I'm sure you can understand my rapture when the iPhone was announced; and I've documented here on several occasions just how saddening it is that they are exclusively with AT&T.

I am considering getting one. I know, I know. I just spent a bunch of money on the BlackBerry. (I can probably sell it for around 2/3 what I paid for it…) And in order to get the iPhone, I'll have to switch carriers. I'm not entirely convinced this is a bad thing. But the worst of it is that I may have to pay not only one, but two early termination fees (mine and Megans) to switch us to AT&T. That may almost double the cost of the move, right there.

For now, it's just an idea. One I'm seriously considering… but just an idea.

I got some money from selling my company a few months ago, and I am in the process of finishing up a freelance coding project worth a few hundred bucks, so it'll be a nice treat for myself for all of the hard work I've done over the last year or so. The only question now, is how long can I resist the impulse?
